An article stated, "Joseph Nation came to the 'Barrens.' He died in 1804. His wife's name was Zeretta. His children were Sampson, Isaac, Charity, Elizabeth (md. a Myres), Rebecca, Labon, Joel, Thomas. In his will Joseph provided that his two stills for the making of liquor should be run for two years, for the benefit of the estate." 1 2

North Carolina Service of Joseph Nation and widow, Jereter Nation W5398 Page 60
"The widow applied for pension in Preble County, Ohio 1840 at the age of 56, made application for pension in order to receive benefit of the law passed by Congress July 4, 1836. States she is the widow of Joseph Nation who was a Private in the Revolutionary War, that at the time of her husband entered service they lived in Randolph County, NC.
And he served 6 months as a Volunteer under Capt Wm Gray, in Randolph Co, NC, Regiment of NC Militia in the later part of 1779 and the first part of 1780, and in 1780 to 1781, served a 3 mos tour in Company of Cavalry, mounted men under Capt John Gillisby, in Col Dugan's Regiment, of NC Militia for 3 mos. That the evidence of Capt Wm Gray, hereto attached.
That she was married to Joseph Nation in the fall of the year 1770 about Christmas, at which time she understood from her father and mother, she was about age 16 or 18, figures illegible, and that she was born about May 8, 1754.
That she was married in Rowan Co, NC, that Samuel Loother, a Lutheran Preacher, solemnized their marriage. States she had 11 children in 1840; that her first child was born 1771 (the rest is undecipherable)...... That her husband died in Claiborne Co, TN, County Seat.....Tazewell, TN on 12 Apr 1803.
Application made in Preble County, OH 9 Apr 1840, Wm Gray made affidavit age 83, states he was acquainted with Joseph and wife Jereter Nation during the Revolutionary War, when they resided in Guilford Co, NC and knows that they were married before the commencement of the War; that he was acquainted with them in same neighborhood. He on his first acquaintence with them they lived in..."
