Joseph NOBBS was born c1754 Evesham, England

Joseph married Sarah LANGSTON 27/11/1793 Evesham, England and they had the following children

Joseph was convicted of stealing promissory notes and sentenced to transportation for life. He arrived in Sydney Cove on 13/6/1802 on "Coromandel"

Joseph had a relationship/marriage with Margaret KEEFE c1802 and they had the following children

  • John 1803 (NOTE: his first son John was still living)

Joseph married Lucy VAUGHAN on 9/10/1827 at Sydney

Joseph died 12/12/1844 Sydney


Convict, sent to Australia on the "Coromandel" 1802. Arrested for stealing promissory notes, 24/11/1798. Tried at March Assizes Worcester in 1880 and sentenced to hang. Later commuted to Transported for Life to NSW. Granted absolute pardon aged 70.

Moved into Lucy Harding's place 1816, Castlereagh St Sydney. A far as I can see Joseph bought 60 acre market garden in 1830. The farm was then named Cook's Angle, and the slab huts near the punt were occupied by his grandson Joseph jr and Joseph Hilton.It was known as "Nobbs Flat". The land was subdivided into smaller farms in 1883 by Joseph's great grandchildren. Refer also 44 Barden St (originallyCampbell St) where Joseph sold 3 lots to Frederick Barden in 1861.
