Joseph, Jr. had inherited much land from his grandfather, Nehemiah whose will was dated 29 Sep 1716 and probated 8 April 1718 at New London, inasmuch as Joseph, Sr. had died before Nehemiah, and the latter in his will remembered 'the children of his eldest son, Joseph.' During the 1740's Mary and Joseph appear to have removed from Stonington to Voluntown. Joseph had a career which paralleled that of his illustrious Uncle Daniel both in longevity and civic duties. He served as Representative to the General Allembly, May and October, 1736, 1738, 1739, May and July 1740 and May 1742. From 1739 to 1743 he was annually appointed Justice of the Peace. Joseph died in Voluntown 12 June 1789 at the age of ninety-nine years! Mary, his wife, died there 13 Jan 1777, age 87 years. He married second 12 June 1779, at age eighty-nine, Hannah Billings.
