Biography
Joseph is said by numerous secondary sources to have been born in 1655;[1][2][3] no primary source of his birth has been located.
He married 4 Feb 1683 (prob. 1683/4) in Salem to Susannah Follett.[4][5]
Joseph and Susannah had seven children, one daughter and six sons, all born in Salem, Massachusetts.[6]name=Sutton/>

Joseph was the founder of the Sutton Family. In 1693 Joseph Sibley, George Harvey and Henry Harvey on a homeward bound passage , from a fishing voyage to Cape Sable were impressed on board a British frigate. After seven weeks in this vessel, the Capt forced Sibley to board another ship. Susannah his wife and mother and children pressed the Governor which he did on his return from a fishing voyage was imprisoned on board a British frigate, put to hard service for seven weeks, then released and sent home. This Joseph was the father of the Sutton Sibleys.[1] Although he owned land at Sutton, there is no evidence that he ever lived there.[9]
The date of Joseph's death is not known, but his estate entered probate on 17 Apr 1718.[10] He is buried in the Wilkinsonville Cemetery.[11] (maybe, but not according to the cited source).
