Joseph Smith is our third cousin 11 times removed. Mormon follower? Could he have been related to
Joseph Smith, as I am (Joseph Smith, Jr., Prophet is your 7th cousin five times removed.) Howeverk I am related thru Grandma Stewart, rather than Grandpa Stewart.

Joseph Smith was born on August 16, 1611 in Farsley, Calverley Parish, Leeds, Yorkshire, England. His parents were John Smith, of Owlcotes & Farsley and Margaret Burnley.

Joseph married Cocke circa 1633 in of. Bristol. Together they had the following children:

1. Captain John Smith, of Middlesex, Va

Joseph married Jane Cowper in 1634 in Holy Trinity Church, Yorkshire, England.

Together they had the following children:

1. John Smith, II
2. Alexander Smith;
3. James Smith;
4. Thomas Smith.

He died circa April 1699 in Middlesex, Virginia, United States.

Added source for baptism given, but could not find a source to show he emigrated. There is a marriage of Joseph Smith and Jane Cowper in 1634, but it is 60 miles away at Sledmere, a long way in those days, so have not added it to the biography. Marriage details: Joseph Smith of Langtoft, tailor, and Jane Cowper of Sledmere, spinster.[3]
