Biography

Joseph Snow was born on 24 November 1671 in Eastham, Plymouth Colony, the son of Joseph and Mary (Unknown) Snow.[1] His mother's maiden name is not proven, but it has been suggested that she was Mary Higgins, the daughter of Richard and Mary (Yates) Higgins.[2]

He married Sarah Smith on 15 December 1690 at Eastham. She was born on 27 March 1671/2 in Eastham, the daughter of John and Hannah (Williams) Smith.

He died on 21 January 1705/6 in Eastham, aged about 34 years.[3] His widow married secondly at Eastham to Daniel Hamilton of Monomoit (Chatham), mar. 05 Aug 1708,[4] as his second wife.

Joseph Snow Jr. appears on the 1695 list of Eastham inhabitants. He signed a receipt 26 Oct. 1696 in the estate of his wife's grandfather, Thomas Williams, of Eastham, who remembered in his will of 10 May 1692 the children of his daughter, Hannah Mulford. Hannah (Williams) Smith, mother of Joseph's wife Sarah, married after 8 March 1679 Thomas Mulford as her 2nd husband.

An Inventory of the estate of Joseph Snow Jr. of Eastham was taken 4 Feb. 1705/6, and administration was granted to widow Sarah (Smith) Snow in May of 1706. His inventory states his death date as 21 January 1705/6.[5]

Joseph Snow Jr. was not mentioned in the 1717 will of his father, but the older man's grandsons Nathaniel Snow and Joseph Snow were remembered, certainly because their father was already dead before 1717. In a gift of realty, grandson Joseph Snow (III) was devised twice as much as his brother Nathaniel, indicating he was the elder son. A Deborah Snow was mentioned in a list of "daughters and granddaughters," and she may well be a daughter of this deceased son of Joseph Snow Sr. Nathaniel Snow testified in 1753 that he had in 1709 gone to Chatham to live with father-in-law Daniel Hambleton, late of Chatham.

Children of Joseph and Sarah (Smith) Snow, born Eastham:[6][7]
