Per a memory of Paula Koch: “My mother, Gladys confided in me two days before my wedding that she feels responsible for her mother (Josephine) death. Josephine was known to have arthritis and took morphine for that. Gladys told her that one night she helped her to sleep by giving her a pill of morphine then left the remaining pills at the bedside. She returned later and found her dead with more pills missing. She surmised that Josephine woke in the middle of the night in pain and took more morphine.
