Josey Hadaway Childs Jackson

1st husband was Thomas Childs who died when Sara was about 5 years old. She later remarried to a Mr. Jackson.

Bessie Dozier's words: She came from around Macon, Georgia. I remember going to Granny Jackson's several times. She lived in Grosbeck, TX. in a very nice little house with a well in the front yard that had the best water. Maybe because you had to draw the water with a long narrow bucket. She had feather beds and in the winter you slept warm on the mattress's with plenty of quilts and she had a lot of them. In the summer only daddy could sleep on them. The rest of the family would sleep on the floor. The back room was a long room where she stored food for the winter. I remember one time going into the room and was amazed at the food she had put up...hams, pickles, and a number of canned foods. There was one other thing Granny Jackson had and that was a beautiful blue bowl that had been my mother, Sara and Papa Jeff's - that they had received as a wedding gift, not sure how she got it. But, it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

 Granny Jackson died sometime during my teens.  For some reason we did not go to her funeral but the night she died, her house burned and it burned so fast that they could not save anything from it.  I met great uncle Otis Childs probably one time and he had 4 children.  Henry died; Alvin who was living in Grosbeck, TX; Lila who also was living in Grosbeck and G.T. who had died.

Josie had 3 sisters, Tervia (Tille) her oldest sister in business in Macon, Ga. had a child out of wedlock. Carrie and her husband. Lucy who married into money in Macon ona one brother, Bud Melton - could have been his middle name.
