Sarah died when Bessie was 9 years old. She was 18 years old when her and Papa Jeff married in Regan, TX. They married on a creek in a buggy and took off for Ardmore, Oklahoma. Oklahoma was still Indiana territory at that time. Bessie Mae Davis was born 8 months later.
