About Joshua Clark, Sr.
Mrs. Jane Charity Hamer funeral service commemoration on September 15, 1939, said the following:
She was the youngest of 13 children (actually, Joel Jasper was, born 1854). When she was 13, (year 1865?) her family joined a company of 300 who came over the Oregon Trail. In fact, her father Joshua Clark was the captain of this train. He had been in California in the gold rush days of 1849 and intended to take his family to California. However, a change of destination was made and they went to Oregon. It may be that attacks by Indians was the determining factor of the change of plans.
