Joshua was born about 1642, probably at Wenham, in Essex County, Massachusetts Bay. He is the son of Richard Goldsmith and Mary Loring. Joshua married Mary Huntington in 1667; he is known from land transfer records to have survived until at least 1693, but his wife is shown in later records to have been widowed by 1723.
