FAMILY OF JOSHUA HAWKINS- Joshua Hawkins was born about March 20, 1780, presumably ' in or near Cumberland. Maryland. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and while not an ordained minister, he did conduct services for his neighbors in Monroe County, Ohio. in the absence of regular ministers. His whereabouts between the date of his birth in Maryland in 1780. and the birth of his son James in Harrison Co.. Va. in 1821 are unknown.but it is believed that he resided for a time in Loudon Co., Va. during this interval. Joshua Hawkins‘first wife was Cassa Tracy, and they were probably married around l807 in Maryland. No further details are known about Cassa Tracy. According to the 1850 census, Joshua Hawkins. then living in Monroe Coiunty,Ohio, is listed as a farmer. born in Md. and worth about $1,200.00. He was related to the Rev. Wm.Hawkins - either a brother or a nephew.
