The Parish Register of Christ Church, Middlesex County, VA from 1653 to 1812, Marriages 1681 Section – Joshua Lawson and Ann Smith were married per license 17 May 1680.

  • Richmond County, VA, Wills and Inventories 1717-1725, Will Book 4, pages 6 & 7 - In the name of God, Amen, I Joshua Lawson of the Parish of North Farnham in the County of Richmond, planter, being well in body and of good sound memory, praise be given to God for the same and knowing the uncertainty of this life on earth and being decisions to settle things in order before I died do make this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following ( that is to say) -
  • First and principally I commend my soul to God my Creator…
  • Imprimis - I give and bequeath unto Ann Loyd, Widow the plantation and land whereon I now live being 200 acres be it more or less, her heirs and assignees for ever, but with the proviso that if William Lawson, my son shall within 3 years after date hereof pay or cause to be paid unto the said Ann Loyd, widow, her heirs or assignees the just quantity of 9,000 pounds of lawful tobacco and cask to be paid in this said County unto the said Ann Loyd, widow being so much I stand justly indebted to her at this present being for wages due unto her for 22 years service that then the said plantation and land to returned unto my son, William, his heirs and forever and in case the said William, my son does not pay the said tobacco, above expressed according to the time above mentioned that then the said Ann Loyd peaceable and quietly to enjoy and possess the said plantation and land for ever.
  • Item - I give unto my son, William Lawson, his heirs, one half or moiety of my personal estate as household goods and stock.
  • Item - I give unto Ann Loyd, widow the other half or moiety of my personal estate as household goods and stock after my debts and funeral charges being paid.
  • Also - I do hereby constitute and ordain John Yeatman my full and whole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, revoking all other Wills and Testament by me formerly made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 22 January 1715/16.
  • Signed Joshus Lawson.
  • Witnesses David (his X mark) Jackson, Daniel (his D mark) Jackson and Austin Jones.
  • At a Court held for Richmond County 4 December 1717.
  • Whereas at a Court held for this County 3 October 1716 at the motion of Ann Loyd this will was proved in open Court by the Oaths of David Jackson and Austin Jones, two of the witnesses thereto and now upon the motion of the said Ann Loyd the same is admitted to record.
