About Joszefine Yehudit Szidon
Managed the Sidon family 150 year old butcher business in Trnava with her husband Max. Escaped to Hungary April 1942, with their daughter Gerta. After the capture of Max during March of 1944, Josefine and her daughter Gerta made their way across the border, back to Slovakia. In Bratislava they were recognized, denounced and captured. After a week of interrogation by the Gestapo, Gerta, then 16, managed to escape by jumping out of a first floor window. Josefine, basing her hopes on the advancing Red Army, and by this time completely demoralized, refused to take the chance of escaping. She perished in Ravensbruck.
