Juan Jose SOLIS [513],[1059],[1819],[3054]

  • He was the Original Grantee of "El Soliseño" in Matamoros, Nuevo Santander, New Spain in 1784.[1819] The "El Soliseño" tract was located west of present-day Matamoros; it was between La Barranca to the east and La Palma to the west. The tract extended about 6 leagues south from the Rio Grande River.
  • He died on 30 April 1807.[1819]
  • Juan Jose Solis, an original settler of Camargo, was the Original Grantee of Porcion 107 in Camargo. The porcion was granted by Spain on August 17, 1768 and contains 6,184 acres in present-day Starr County, Texas.
  • He was also one of the 14 original founders of the "congregacion" named San Juan de los Esteros Hermosos about 20 miles upstream from the mouth of the Rio Grande River; the "congregacion" grew into the city known today as Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. His ranch was known as El Soliseño.
  • Parents: Antonio de SOLIS and Josefa VELA.
  • Spouse: Maria Gertrudis HINOJOSA Gonzales. Maria Gertrudis HINOJOSA Gonzales and Juan Jose SOLIS [1819] were married on 7 January 1766.[513] Children were:
