Judah Leib ben Isaac of Szydłów (Hebrew: יהודה לייב בן יצחק משדלוב; d. 1730) was an 18th-century Polish rabbi and Talmudist. Born to an old and distinguished rabbinic family, his father Yitzchak ben Shmuel Zak was the Chief Rabbi of Przemyśl and later Krakow. His mother was the daughter of Joshua Höschel ben Joseph (the Meginei Shlomo). In his early years, Judah Leib officiated as rabbi in Szydłów, Statchov, Rakow, and later serving as representative of Kraków in the Council of Four Lands (Vaad Arba Artzot). In 1713 he succeeded his father as the Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshiva at Kraków, where he remained till his death in 1731. His children: 1. Rabbi David Shmuel, the Av Beit Din of Cracow, grandfather of Reb Shmuel ben Avraham Yeshayahu, of Karov. 2. Rabbi Yosef, the Av Beit Din of Pintchov father of R' Menachem Mendel of Rymanov 3. Rabbi Yitzchak, the Av Beit Din of Tarnow, grandfather of Rabbi Shmelke Leib Licht, ABD Bumsla. 4. Rabbi Yehoshua, the Av Beit Din of Shidlov, ggfather of Gaon Rav Shlomo Kluger, Maharshak-Maggid of Brody

Note: There is confusion with the father of Rabbi Judah Leib ben Isaac of Szydłów Zak. Here he is shown as son of Rabbi Isaac ben Samuel Zak, ABD of Przemysl and Cracow. This correctly corresponds to Otser HaRabanim # 7202 and # 11123. However, there is another Yehuda Leyb Schidlow (# 7421) ben Yitzach Schidlow (# 11212). It is the latter Yehuda Leyb, who according to Jacobi (Vol. 4, p. 136, 12.2) is known as 'RISCHaK', who is the father of Rabbi David Shmelke ABD Cracow (# 5224), father of Rabbi Jechiel Mendel Ehrenburg, A.B.D. Przemysl, # 10260, where he is called Yakov Mendel, father of R' Joseph Asher Ehrenburg, A.B.D. Przemysl, # 8730. Both lines are associated with Schidlow and Cracow so there is reason to confuse the two, but if Otsr is correct then they are two different lines. Possibly they are the same person, but then chronologies don't seem to work as well. (11 May 2024)
