About Judge Joris "George" Ryerson Ryerson, Jr.
He was a leading man of his day, being a surveyor of note and also one of His Majesty's Judges. Judge Ryerson was agent for the East Jersey Proprietors and represented them in Bergen County. Judge Ryerson was appointed the first Judge of the court of Common Pleas for Bergen County. The first record of his appointment appears in the minutes of the Council held in Burlington, March 28, 1749. Judge Ryerson married Mary, daughter of Abraham Duboise of Raritan, in Somerset County, NJ. Their children's births are recorded in an ancient Bible, the records being in the Dutch language in the handwriting of Judge Ryerson. The Bible decended to their daughter Ann Ryerson, wife of Henry Cook, and is now said to be in possession of the Cook Family. according to Geraldine Ryerson Kanner, sheldy1@aol.com submitted by MM van Beuren (Geni.com)
