Birth: Mar. 20, 1762 King George County Virginia, USA Death: May 4, 1813 Dayton Campbell County Kentucky, USA

Son of Thomas Berry and Elizabeth Washington, who were married in St. Paul's Parish, Stafford County, Virginia on Nov. 19, 1758, Washington Berry was married on Sept. 27, 1791 to Alice Thornton Taylor. At the advice of his brother-in-law James Taylor, he purchased 1000 acres of a tract awarded to George Muse for his service in the French and Indian War, which is where the city of Dayton, Kentucky now stands. Berry relocated his family there in 1793, and in 1797 he was granted a license to operate a ferry between Dayton in Kentucky and Columbia on the Ohio side of the river. In addition to being Campbell County's first judge, he served as county commissioner and treasurer, city trustee for Newport, chairman of the board of trustees for the Newport Academy, and paymaster of the 48th Regiment of the Kentucky Militia. He wrote his will Apr. 25, 1813 which was proved Aug. 25, 1813 [Campbell County Will Book A, p. 193].
