Judith Hathaway Kemper came from a slave owning family according to her father's will. Does anyone have access to records to find out how many slaves he owned? She married an Abolitionist, the Rev. James Kemper.. He trained with the Rev. David Rice in Kentucky. Rice was an early Abolitionist. Rice was kicked out of Virginia for his interactions with slaves. Two of James and Judith's children were named for Rice and his wife. Rice was on the constitutional committee drafting the constitution for Kentucky. He proposed a plank that slavery be gradually abolished. It was voted down. Kemper supported David Rice when he was too old to work. James Kemper founded Lane Seminary, hired Lyman Beecher, Harriet Beecher Stowe's father to be president. Judith went from a family owning slaves to being a frontier woman who raised 15 children without Slaves. That is quite a journey. From: Jaime Howley https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hathaway-1023
