Julia Ann Town

Based on genetic testing of a female-line descendant, her mtDNA haplogroup was H5a. Her mother's maiden name and town of birth were unknown.

On June 6, 1849, Julia married William Town in Dorset, Bennington County, Vermont. The marriage was performed by Philander Lackey. Together, they had at least eight, and possibly nine, children:

2. Dulcina or Delcina (Town) Starks, b. January 25, 1853 in Sandgate, Bennington County, Vermont
3. Alphonso Town, b. 1858 in Vermont
4. William C. Town, b. December 15, 1859 in Dorset
5. Sally Town, b. 1863 in Vermont
6. Lorane (Town) Tifft, b. April 1866 in Vermont
7. Henry Town, b. 1871 in Vermont
8. Julia Town, b. 1875 in Vermont

There is a mention in one of Julia's widow's pension affidavits that she had six children before the war and three after, but no other record of the child has been found.

Notes from her widow's pension files:

• Ralza Hazelton (1825 - 1900) writes in a pension affidavit that Julia "came into [his] father's family to live when but four months old, living here [Dorset?] until she was married to William Town." Ralza's father was Solomon Hazelton of Dorset.
• Nellie and Maud Fisher of Dorset are listed as witnesses on her widow's pension records of November 11, 1895.
• William and Julia were married June 6, 1849 at Dorset by Philander Lackey. She spelled her surname "More."
• She appointed John Fisher of Dorset as her attorney.
• She described herself as being "like a child" in her final years, being cared for by her daughters.
