William C. Town was born in Dorset, Bennington County, Vermont on December 15, 1859. His parents were William Town and Julia Ann (Moore) Town.
In the 1880 Census, he was living as a servant farm laborer for Fayette W. and Frances M. Hopkins in Rupert, Bennington County, Vermont. Also living with William and the couple was Kate Green, a Vermont-born Irish servant.
William married Betsy Jane Barber, known as Jane, in 1881. With her he had the following children:
On Charles' World War I draft registration card and on his death certificate, his date and place of birth are given as August 11, 1893 in Manchester, Bennington County, Vermont. This indicates that the family may have been living in Manchester around the time of the lost 1890 Census.
Eva's date of birth according to SSDI was April 10, 1898. Her Florida death index entry gives the date as April 10, 1900. This points to Eva and the extra, unaccounted-for "Baby Town" listed on the 1900 Census as being the same person.
In the 1900 Census, William was living with his wife and all their children in Manchester, Bennington County, Vermont.
In the 1910 Census, he was living in Jamaica, Windham County, Vermont with Charles and Eva. He was by then listed as a widower.
In the 1930 Census, he was living back in Rupert with his nephew Lyman C. Tifft and his family.
William died on November 15, 1937 in Dorset of a cerebral hemorrhage.
