About June Luzell Gordon

March 23, 1915 ~ October 10, 2012: June Luzell Nelson Gordon passed away October 10, 2012, in her 98th year. Beloved wife of Samuel Harvey Gordon, they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage and left a posterity of 124 loving heirs who loved their “Grandma June”. Born on March 23, 1915, in Lewiston, Utah, she was the first of seven children born to Heber Bertrand and Caroline Luzell Leavitt. She graduated from North Cache High where she met her future husband. They married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1933. They raised their five children in Brigham City until 1958 when they moved to New Zealand to teach in the LDS Church College. There she became the first Stake Primary President outside of North America. She and Sam also served there as Temple workers for 3 ½ years, and again later in the Ogden temple. In New Zealand she became a mother away from home for all the Missionaries.

Her life was dedicated to her very busy five children, rarely missing any events. A gifted decorator, her home was filled with beauty and culture, and she instilled a love of reading into her children. She loved dancing, and with Sam belonged to two dance clubs. Always stylish, she became the clothing buyer for both Blocks and Forsgren’s clothing stores. She and Sam were honored as Grand Marshalls of the Brigham City Peach Days Parade and also for the Box Elder County Fair. She will be forever cherished as a devoted, loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her five children: Dixie Richardson (Melvin), Dr. Dennis Gordon (Mary Jane, deceased), Richard Gordon (Claudene), Sandra Bouwhuis (Richard), and Larry Gordon (Diane). She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her four brothers, Guy, Ray, Keith and Richard, and her two sisters, Vonda and Joyce, and daughter in law, Mary Jane Gordon and one grandson, Lance Richardson.

The family expresses special thanks to the staff and caregivers at The Wentworth Assisted Living and Holladay Olympus Ranch Retirement Centers, and to the devoted providers of Envision and St. Mark’s Hospital. A viewing will be held Friday evening, Oct. 12, from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Gillies Funeral Chapel at 634 E 200 South in Brigham City. On Saturday, Oct. 13, a viewing will begin at 10:30am to 11:30am and the Funeral at 12:00 noon at the Perry 7th Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
