LAYTON-Earl Ray Nelson, 89, passed away Sun. February 10, 2008 at the Wasatch Care Center in Ogden, Utah.

He was born Dec. 24, 1918 in Richmond, Utah, the son of Bertrand and Luzell C. Leavitt Nelson. He had resided in Layton for the last 60 years. Ray married Thelma Yaussi Nelson on Oct. 7, 1939 in Logan, Utah. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2007. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ray was self employed; over the years he owned many businesses in Davis and Weber County. Upon retirement he and Thelma began spending their winters in Apache Junction, Arizona where they made many new friends. He grew up on a farm and had a passion for horses. He loved his children and grandchildren and was always the first person to see, visit and hold any new arrivals.

He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, DeeAnn and Jerry Richins, Syracuse; Bette and Dale Green, Fruit Heights; eight grandchildren, 26 great-grand-children, three great-great-grand-children, one brother, Keith Nelson, Ogden; and three sisters, June Gordon, Perry; Vonda Clark, Salt Lake City; and Joyce Dehart, Roy. Preceded in death by his wife, parents and three brothers, Guy, Richard and Don Nelson.

Funeral Services will be held Fri. February 15, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and Family may call Thurs. from 6 to 8 p.m. and Fri. from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Mortuary. Interment: Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
