Simon Johanson Stangerhold was born about 1659, as he was in his 43rd year at the time of the 1701 census of Ytteroy. The 1664-66 censuses of Ytteroy and Mosvig do not mention anyone named Simon, so he probably was not born in the Ytteroy clerical district. Simon first married (147) Justina Jacobsdatter, probably about 1690, for Simon's burial record states that had been married to Justina Jacobsdatter for seven years and the division of her estate was made on 10 April 1697. They had two children, both mentioned in that division:

Elias Simonson, born about 1691 as he was in his sixth year at the time his mother's estate was divided. Ingebor Simonsdatter, baptized on Exaudi Sunday (the Sunday after Ascension) 1694. th Simon and Barbro Olsdatter Biovig were betrothed on the 15 Sunday after Trainity 1697 and married on All Saints Day (November 1) of that year. The only males listed on Stangerholt in the census of 1701 were Simon, Elias, identified as his son, and a servant, aged 25. The estate of Barbro Olsdatter Stangerholt, identified as the wife of Simon Stangerholt, was divided 5 September 1701. Besides Simon, her only other heir was her father, Ole Arnson Biovig. In particular, Simon and Barbro had no surviving children. Simon and Marit Madsdater Stordal, daughter of Mads Olufson And Berit Olufsdater, were betrothed on the Feast of the Purification (February 2) 1702 and married on Palm Sunday of that year. Stordal was in the parish of Mosvig. Simon and Marit had seven children, all born on Stangerholt: i. Justina Simonsdater, baptized between Good Friday and Misericordias Domini Sunday (the 2nd Sunday after Easter) 1703 (the written record is extremely faint, and the date of baptism indecipherable), ii. Oluf Simonson, baptized the 14th Sunday after Trinity 1705. iii. Johan Simonson, baptized Reminiscere Sunday (4 March) 1708. iv. Simon Simonson, baptized the 9th Sunday after Trinity 1710. v. Peder Simonson, baptized the 1st Sunday after Epiphany 1713. vi. Mads Simonson, baptized Easter Monday 1715. th • vii. Oluf Simonson, baptized the 16 Sunday after Trinity 1747. The funeral of Simon Johanson Stangerholt was held on 16 December 1718. The parish record mentions his three wives. Marit was betrothed on the 24th Sunday after Trinity 1719 and married on the 3rd Sunday in Advent 1719 to Jon Povelson Barstad, who took over Stangerholt. Jon and Marit had no children. The funeral of Jon Poulson Stangerholt, aged 78 Vz, was held Palm Sunday 1756, and that of Marit Madsdater Stangerholt, in her 86th year, was held on 20 October 1748,
