About Karolina Maier
She came to Mount Airy, NC in 1903, but returned to Germany where she lived as the wife of Hermann MAYER.3
She and her sister, Elisabeth, possessed a 1004 qm big meadow bought in 1900. In the summer of 1939 they were forced by the Nazis to sell this meadow under priced to a non Jewish farmer in Dreisen.4
Deported to Gurs October 22, 1940 arriving October 25. Moved to Camp Noe February 20, 1941.5
She unsuccessfully tried to emigrate to South Africa. She survived the war and died in a hospital in Mâcon, France. She is buried in Lyon.9 Source Michael Marx
