BIOGRAPHY Kaspara (Jasper) Holtey was born about 1515, the eldest daughter of Arnd Holtey and Hermanna Seebeck gen. Kerkerinck. Kaspara entered the Benedictiner convent of Marienberg near Boppard, a convent which only accepted members of the aristocracy. It is not certain who sponsored her acceptance into it. Later she left the convent and, on 28 September 1552 in the chapel of castle Broich, married Philipp von Daun, Graf von Falkenstein, son of Wirich V von Daun, Graf von Falkenstein, and Irmgard, Gräfin von Sayn. Subsequently their son Wirich VI was legitimised. Philipp, who had been a canon of the cathedral of Cologne, had left the religious life with a papal dispensation. As he had been appointed a subdeacon he also received a papal dispensation to marry.

Philipp died in 1554 and left Kaspara and their children in insecure circumstances. Philipp's brother Sebastian, on 2 February 1554, described Kaspara as an inferior member of the aristocracy, and he did not accept her as of equal status ('ebenbürtig') to a high aristocrat such as Philipp. Kaspara died in 1558. Both she had her sister protested against these assertions. Kaspara's son Wirich VI later became the head of the Protestant party in the duchies of Berg, Jülich and Cleves.
