Aged Woman, Burned In Singeing Mudhens Over Bonfire, Dies

MRS. CATHERINE STOLPA, aged 79, residing at 807 East Front street, died today at the Winona General hospital as a result of shock caused by extensive burns sustained when her clothing caught fire yesterday while she was engaged in singeing mudhens over a bonfire in the back yard of her home.
The aged woman, who resided alone, was severely burned before neighbors, attracted by her screams, hastened to her assistance and smothered the flames.
Mrs. Emma Eifealdt city poor commissioner, under whose care Mrs. Stolpa had been for several years, went to the Stolpa home, accompanied by a physician, and made arrangements to have the injured woman taken to the hospital.
She was unable to withstand the shock, in view of her advanced age, and died this morning.
The mudhens which she was preparing to cook at the time she received her fatal injuries had been given her by friends.
Funeral services will be held at St Stanislaus church Friday at 9.30 a. m. the Rt. Rev Fr. J.W.J. Pacholski officiating. Burial will be made in St. Mary's cemetery.
Mrs. Stolpa is survived by one sister, Mrs. Augusta Apka.
