About Katherine Murdock
The Murdock family history in America begins with two brothers, John and Jeremiah Murdock. There is on record in Prince George County a deed dated November 13, 1714, in which John Murdock, merchant, conveyed, as a gift to his brother, Jeremiah Murdock (who settled in Virginia), a certain piece of land on the west side of the Patuxent River (being part of a tract called "Padworth Farm"). In his will, Jeremiah Murdock left the land 'back' to his nephew, William Murdock.
Captain John Murdock, brother of Major Jeremiah Murdock, settled in Prince George County, Maryland, either in 1690 or the early part of 1700. "Murdock's Addition" adjoining "Essenton" was surveyed for him on March 26, 1703. Through the years, Captain John Murdock acquired large tracts of land. He married Katherine Barton (daughter of Colonel William Barton, Jr. and Sarah Barton).
