Kathryn Gordon Winston Durity

Thursday, December 31, 2020, Kathryn Gordon “Kitty” (Fleming) Winston Durity was called home to be with her heavenly family. She passed away at Mary Washington Hospital at the age of 88.

Kitty was born on October 5, 1932 to Harry & Irene (Coleman) Fleming. Following graduation from James Monroe High School in 1951, she moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where she met and married Francis de “Frank” Winston in 1952. They had five beautiful children. Kitty relocated to Maryland where she married William Durity.

In Maryland she worked in the apartment management business in many positions and retired in 1995 as a Property Manager, then she returned to Fredericksburg. Kitty was a member of the Pythian Sisters Lodge #1 where she was a sister of the year; Ladies Auxiliary of the BPOE Elks Lodge #875 where she was once awarded women of the year; Ladies Auxiliary of the Fredericksburg Fire Department, Life member; Auxiliary of the Fredericksburg VFW Post 3103; Spotsylvania Senior Citizens’ Association, Fredericksburg Senior Citizens’ Association where she was once Citizen of the year. Over the years, Kitty held many elected positions within these organizations.

Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, working in her yard, and playing cards with her friends. She enjoyed her daily breakfast at Hardee’s, driving to the City Dock, and working Bingo at the Pythian and Elks lodges. Everyone knew where to find Kitty when she was needed. She was dedicated to everything she was a part of.

She will be dearly missed by her beloved children MaryBeth McGhee (Bob), Phillip Winston (Jerrie), Frank Winston (Colene), Martha Owens (Joe), Barbara Spears (Dennis); grandchildren Kelli Scherer (Craig), Sandra Winston, Scott McGhee (Lauren), Frank Winston (Kelly), Brian Spears, Lisa Ridosh (Gary), and Joey Owens, great-grandchildren Hunter Thomas (Meagan), Jacob McGhee-Garner, Travis Winston, Austin Scherer, Brooke Winston, Parker McGhee, Tyler McGhee, and Brayden Ridosh; and great-great grandson Colton Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Margaret Covington Sullivan and Diane Gittman; and brother Harry “Flip” Fleming, Jr.

A service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Covenant Funeral Service Fredericksburg. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
