About Kommerzienrat Eduard Hopf

Translation from the 1928 Tuchmann Stambaumm und Chronik:

"Of his [Stefan Hopf's] sons, he was followed by his son Edward into [the Municipal] Council. For many years he was First Secretary, and as such was among the representatives of the municipal authorities at the launching in Kiel of the cruiser “Nuremberg,” [1906] donated by the city, having been invited by Prince Heinrich and the Kaiser. He created large endowments for artists and charitable organizations."

Eduard Hopf held the title of Kommerzienrat - Commercial Counselor

Each of his three children died at a young age:

His youngest child, Grete, died at the age of 6 in 1903.

His daughter Lina died at the age of 26 in 1914.

His eldest child, Fritz, Dr. jur., was killed in WWI at Maurepas in 1916 at the age of 29.

Eduard's death is recorded as 12/25/1926, and that of his wife Anna. one day later. My uncle Chaim Geyari (who was 6 at the time) remembers them dying the same day.

Translation from p. 98 of http://www.mfr-bh.de/images/SMB/pdf/Festschrift_100.pdf:

"According to the family tradition, the couple Eduard and Anna Hopf built the "Gretel Hopf Foundation" with a capital of 20,000 Marks (approx. 120,000 Euros) in Bavarian state bonds and 200 Marks in cash in 1903 after the death of their six-year-old daughter Gretel. The memorial function of the foundation illustrates the statutes, which say that interest should always be distributed to the "Verein für Feriencolonien" (the association for holiday colonies) and to the "Nürnberger Kinderpital" ("Children's Hospital") on the birthday of the girl."
