(Excerpt from THE FAMILY OLSEN BOGEN From Stokke, by Anna Marie Aaroe ( born 12-18-1870), granddaughter of Per Olsen Bogen; daughter of Anne Marie Olsen Bogen (8-09-1842-1-30-1911) and Soren Aaroe (9-27-1823 - 2-06-1893) In the Norwegian language "a with a ring over it" and "o with a slash through it" are separate letters at the end of the alphabet. When limited character sets are available, "o with a slash through it" is frequently replaced with the two letter combination "oe", and "a with a ring over it" is frequently replaced with the two letter combination of "aa". Christoffer Haraldsson Bergan owned Northern Bergan from 1670-1705 and was the first freeholder there. Northern Bergan was the property of the crown from 1530 until da 1645 when the king leased the farm to a Toensberg merchant, Ambjoern Lauritzsoen (Falk). Christoffer bought it from this man's son, Ambrosius Ambjoernssoen, in 1670, after having been the leaseholder there from 1655 on. Christoffer Bergan was married to Elj Olesdatter, no doubt Ole Mikkelssoen Bergan's daughter. He had three sons: Ellev, Ole, and Tor.
