La Verna Lewis (Conner)

LaVerna graduated from Sylvia High School and married Harry Lewis in 1936. Their first son, Jerry, was born in Lyons, KS before they moved to Houston, TX where work was more plentiful. They bought some acreage and built a house and other buildings and raised three sons and a daughter.

LaVerna had a head for business and took business courses and finished real estate school intending to sell real estate. She attended Genoa Methodist Church (now well over 150 yrs. old) for many years and had a large group of friends there. Even with diabetes and a pace maker, she lived to 90, surpassing her brothers and sisters and most of her friends--pretty good for a woman who received an omen from her doctor that she would not live to 70.
