"LaMar Pope Barnes was born on the 20 September ,1920 in Evanston , WY to parents Alme <sic> and Hattie Pope Barnes . He died on March 19 , 2012 at his home in Hermiston , OR at the age of 91 years . LaMar was raised in Wyoming and Utah . He enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II in Europe . After his honorable discharge he returned to Ogden , Utah and worked at the Hill Airforce Base as an electrical engineer until he retired . LaMar married Vera Faye Perkins on May 12 , 1985 in Las Vegas , Nevada . They were snowbirds for several years , spending winters in Arizona and summers in Oregon . They moved to Hermiston , Oregon in 1993 and have lived here ever since . LaMar enjoyed building things , bowling woodworking (including making elaborate rubber-band guns and night lights ) . he enjoyed playing guitar . He played weekly at Hermiston Terrace , Hermiston , Oregon . La Mar was a member of the Grace Baptist Church , Hermiston , OR .

He is survived by his wife : Vera Faye Barnes , Hermiston , OR ; sons : Ken and John Barnes , both of Ogden , Utah ; daughter Kathy Mecham , Newhaven , Utah ; brothers : Ed "Bud" Barnes , Red Bluff , CA , and Bill Barnes , Kaysville , Utah ; stepchildren : Rogenia Van Schoiack , Umitilla , OR , Kim Wilson , Portland, OR . and Clayton Wilson , Beaverton , OR ; several grandchildren and great grandchildren .  He was preceeded in death by his parents ; son : Jeff Barnes ; sisters : Donna & Wilma , and brother Orville <sic> "OJ" .

A celebration of life service with a potluck to follow will be held on Saturday , April , 14 , 2012 at 11a.m. at the Hermiston Senior Center , 435 W. Orchard Ave. , Hermiston , OR 97838 . Those who wish may make contributions in LaMar's memory to the Grace Baptist Church , 555 SW 11th Street , Hermiston , OR 97838 .
