Anne Mapted, daughter of Humphrey Mapted and Susan Weald, was born in Frinton, Essex about 1592. She married Sir Thomas Adams in St. Leonard, Eastcheap, London about 1616. They had nine children. Despite being a devout supporter of King Charles I, Sir Thomas was in command of the Blue Regiment of the London Trained Bands for the Parliamentarian forces in the First English Civil War (1642-1646). It was said, on 11 January 1642, that Anne died of fright at their home on Ironmongers Lane, Fenchurch Street, during the threatened Royalist attack on London, which never materialized.

The Complete Baronetage, Vol. III 1649-1664 (1903), cites Anne's death as 16 January 1641/42, with her burial at St. Leonard's, Eastcheap. She is listed in the "Catalogue of Most of the Memorable Tombes, Grave stones, Plates, Escutcheons, or Atchievements in the Demolisht or yet Extant Churches of London", by Major Payne Fisher, London, 1668, as "the Lady Adams, wife of the learned, and true lover of learning, the honourable Sir Thomas Adams, Knight-Baronet, and father of the City." Her burial place, however, is not noted. She was apparently reinterred at St. Mary and St. Margaret Church in Sprowston, Norfolk, where she and Sir Thomas Adams are memorialized as figures guarded by greiving cherubs.
