Margaret Adams, daughter of Sir Thomas Adams and Anne Mapted, was born in St. Leonard, Eastcheap, Bridge Ward, London and was baptised there on 25 October 1616. In 1635 she married Sir Edward Claggett who would later serve in her father's London regiment. They were the parents of ten children. Margaret died sometime before September 1689 in St. Leonard, London. She is assumed to have been buried with her husband at St. Benet Gracechurch in Bridge Ward, London. The church, located at the southwest corner of Fenchurch Street and Grace Church Street, derives its name from its dedication to Saint Benedict, or Bennett, and its vicinity to the grass market, which was anciently held before its western door.

The church was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666, and was rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren, being completed in 1685. Prior to its demolition in 1868, the interments were reburied in the City of London Cemetery in Manor Park. The Church of St. Leonard Eastcheap was also destroyed in the Great Fire but was not rebuilt. It stood on Fish Street Hill, on the corner of Eastcheap, in the Ward of Bridge Within, located north of the Thames. The site of the church was retained as a graveyard. The present church is now the parochial church of the two united parishes.
