About Lady Elizabeth Hamond
Notes
Nicholas Martin was the last of the Martyns and died without SURVIVING male issue in 1595 (he had three sons depicted kneeling behind him on the chantry brasses at St. Mary's Church, Puddleton, Dorset). His estate was divided amongst his four surviving daughters, of whom Elizabeth, the eldest, married Henry Brune; and their son, as heir to his mother, lived at Athelhampton Hall. His great niece, Marie Brune, married Sir Ralph Bankes, son of Sir John Bankes and 'Brave Dame Mary' of Corfe Castle.
Elizabeth is depicted with her parents and six sisters and three brothers on the family tomb brasses at St. Mary's Church, Puddleton, Devon. She is also mentioned on the inscription accompanying the brasses as one of four daughters of Nicholas and Margaret Martyn who were his co-heirs.
She married Henry Brune, son of Sir John Brune, Kt., who died 30 Elizabeth (1588). They had six children.
She seems to have had a second husband, as her her mother calls her "Lady Elizabeth Hamond" when she leaves her an endowment. Her mother's will was proved April 26, 1611. ___________________________________________________________________________
