Lady Mary (Lauder) Waldron

William Shaw married Mary WALDRON in 1810. She was born in 1790 in Co Kilkenny, as far as I can determine. William was born either in Antrim 1786 or Co Kilkenny. We have an interesting piece of family lore that states that Wm went to a Castle to learn to be a cook. Being young and handsome he soon caught the eye of the daughter of his master, Sir George Waldron. They fell and love and eloped against the wishes of their family. In this fanciful account she is referred to as Lady Mary Waldron. I have a copy of a photo dating back to the 1830's of the daughter of this couple and on the reverse it says "Susan Shaw, daughter of Lady Mary Waldron, daughter of Sir John Waldron, Earl of Cushendall and Lady Mary Lauder." So I don't know if her father was John or George. I have not been able to verify any of this and have been told there was no such title as Earl of Cushendall.

Hi all, I am new to the list, having just discovered records at LDS online for my Irish emigrants. (William Shaw born abt 1785, Diocese of Ossory, marriages, Mary Waldron), (Mary Waldron, born abt 1790, Diocese of Ossary, marriages, William Shaw), (William Shaw, male, marriages, Mary Waldron, 1811, Diocese of Ossory). This was first actual records of their existance in Ireland I have found. His birth date is corroborated by census records in Leeds Co. Ontario. I would like to learn where in diocese of Ossary they were from, their parents and siblings. I have no parents or siblings for William. Family lore says Mary Waldron's parents were Sir John Waldron, Earl of Cushendall, and Mary Lauder, not proven. Also that they were forbidden to marry and eloped. They apparently moved to Co Wexford as the obits of their children, Thomas and Susan (Ont) say they were born in Wexford. The family moved to Lansdowne, Leeds Co, Ont. in abt 1820.
