Marble monument designed by James Gibbs, 1723, consisting of sarcophagus with a wall piece behind. It commemorates the Marchioness' sons, Lord William (died 1721) and James, 2nd marquess of Annandale (died 1730).

Sophia Fairholm was born on 18 March 1668.1 She died on 13 December 1716 at age 48.1 She was buried on 18 December 1716 at Westminster Abbey, Westminster, London, England.1
From 2 January 1681/82, her married name became Johnstone. As a result of her marriage, Sophia Fairholm was styled as Countess of Annandale and Hartfell on 2 January 1681/82. As a result of her marriage, Sophia Fairholm was styled as Marchioness of Annandale on 24 June 1701.
