About Lafayette "Lay" Catron

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/147325270/lafayette-catron

Recorded as Lay Catron, but full name appears to be Lafayette Catron; exact location of grave not determined but reported to be buried there by one of Tyner's informants. If this is the same person, he is identified in the Dawes Rolls at Roll No. 17982, Card 7622, which showed him as being 72 at the time, which fits. He was shown as 1/4 Cherokee. Also shows being married to Mary J. Catron; (Roll No. 268) believed to be his second marriage. Thought to have first been married to a Nancy (Nannie) Roach. See Oklahoma State Historical Society Internet Records, Dawes Final Rolls.

Be aware of alternative spellings on surname "CATRON," also seen as "CATTRON," or spelled with a "K," as "KATRON."

Plot number corresponds to the map in the canvass and survey from the American Indian Institute; "Our People And Where They Rest," James W. Tyner and Alice Tyner Timmons, University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK. 1971, Volume 4, p. 23. (Library of Congress No. QE99-C5-T97)

Their information (including any diagrams or maps) is given here as a historical reference and is presented "as is." Their book, like many such cemetery listing compilations, may contain errors. As with any genealogy information, this is merely a "source" and should be considered as such. It falls upon the end-user to verify the accuracy. See their map for use as a quick locator tool for graves here. Book is available at many Oklahoma libraries; once freely available for online viewing, the OPAWTR volumes can now be accessed only at a LDS Family History Library, a partner library, or a Family History Center.
