About Lambert de Moulton, of Egremont

Held Moulton and Weston from Spalding Priory

Within a few months of the death of Richard de Lucy, Thomas de Moulton had offered 1,000 marks for the custody and marriage of the daughters and heirs of Richard.

These two daughters he married to his two sons by a former marriage--that is:. Amabel, the elder, to his son Lambert, and Alice, the younger, to his son Alan de Multon. Before 10 March 1217/18 Thomas married the mother of these two girls, the widow of their father.

Lambert later took a second wife, IDA, widow of GEOFFREY d’Oyly, daughter of ---. She married thirdly Geoffrey de Millers. But there do not seem to have been any Multon offspring from this marriage.

=================================================

Lambert de Multon's descendants retained the name Multon. His brother Alan's adopted the name Lucy.

=================================================

Cawley notes only one son, Thomas Multon de Egremont, who married three times:

  • 1. Ida somebody (who was probably the mother of his only documented child, another(!) Thomas (!!!);
  • 2. Elizabeth somebody, widow of "John de Munemuth", who can be identified with reasonable certainty as John (the Elder) of Monmouth (died 1257 without heirs). see John (the Elder Brother) de Monmouth, Lord of Monmouth She d. between 1276-1278.
  • 3. Margaret somebody (shortly before 1288).

Thomas' son Thomas m. Emoine le Boteler and predeceased his father, but left another (!!!) son Thomas (!!!!!). *That* one married Eleanor de Burgh and had three daughters and a son named, thankfully, John.
