About Thomas ll de Multon

Thomas de Multon was born Abt 1225 in Burgh-On-Sands, Cumberland, England and died before 14 Jan 1270-1271

He was the 1st son of Thomas de Multon of Egremont by his 2nd wife, Ada, daughter and coheir of Hugh de Morville, Forester of Cumberland.  He was his mother's heir. His father gave him the Lincs. manors of Whaplode and Holbeach, and at Michaelmas 1242 he accounted for his relief on succession to his mother's inheritance. Before Michaelmas 1252, he had confirmation of all the liberties of the forest of Cumberland as his ancestors had held them, and custody of Carlisle Castle. 

Married

  1. Maud, the only daughter and heiress of Hubert de Vaux, lord of Gillesland, and with this marriage he aquired her father's lordship.  His widow  died shortly before 28 May 1293.

Notes

  •  In 42 Henry III [1257-1258], he had a military summons to march with the other northern barons into Scotland for the purpose of rescuing the Scottish Monarch, King Henry's son-in-law from the restraints imposed upon him by his own subjects. 
  • Thomas was summoned for service in Wales in 55 Henry lll (1258). 
  •  In 1264-65 he sided with the Barons against the King, but it is uncertain whether it was he or his namesake nephew of Egremont who was by them appointed Warden of the Coast, and (or) keeper of Carlisle Castle.
  •  On 18 Jun 1266 he had a safe conduct to come to Court, provided he kept faith with the King and his heirs, and, in July 1270, protection for 3 years.

Children 

  1. succeeded by his son, also named Thomas de Multon. This Thomas, as the third baron of Gillesland, was summoned to parliament from 1297 until his death in 1313. He passed his barony to the husband of his daughter Margaret, Ralph Dacre. The name of his wife is not known.
  2.  Aline de Multon b Abt 1239, Moulton, Lincolnshire, England.  Married Sir William de Braose Lord of Bramber and Gower.

Thomas II de Multon (died 1271) Baron of Burgh and Gilsland, was an English noble.

He was the eldest son of Thomas de Multon and Ada de Morville. He succeeded his father in 1240. He died in 1271 and was succeeded by his grandson Thomas.

Marriage and issue

Thomas married Maud, daughter and sole heiress of Hubert de Vaux and Aline, they are known to have had the following known issue:

  1. Thomas de Multon, married Isabella, had issue.
  2. Hubert de Multon, married firstly Ada la Brune, had issue and secondly Margaret du Bois, also with issue.
  3. James de Multon, had issue.
  4. Aline de Multon, married William de Braose, 1st Baron Braose, had issue.
