About Layah Katz
From Yoni Schwartzman: My Great-Great Uncle, Shlomo Usher Schwartzman, was the last of the 2 surviving Schwartzman brothers to see Layah, their sister and 2nd eldest sibling, alive. As he was fleeing the Nazis, he returned to say goodbye to his family in 1939 and to pick up a few possessions (which is how we have a photograph of Shlomo Usher and Meyer's siblings). She is remembere as a loving, caring wife and loving eldest sister of the Schwartzman family. His (Shloym's) last memory of her was bittersweet: She gave him a pillow and blanket and some food for his long journey to Shanghai before he said goodbye to her for the last time in Sciedlce, Poland.
Layah and her family were murdered in the Holocaust.
