About Ruchel Schwartzman (Bauman)
From Ruchel Schwartzman's Great-Great-Grandson, Yoni Schwartzman: Not much is known about my Great-Great Grandmother. From the research that I have conducted, I can accurately portray her life as follows: Ruchel was born in Zagorow, Poland and lived their for her entire life. Her brother, David Mordechai Bauman, made aliyah/moved to Israel before it became a state (during British-Mandate Palestine). Since her own father was a Rabbi, she was betrothed to Rabbi Yisroel Moshe Schwartzman, who was also from Zagorow, and the two wed in 1898. According to local records, it is presumed that she passed away at age 46 in 1922 and, assumingly, was buried next to her husband who outlived her by some years. The couple were buried in the new section of the Poznan Jewish Cemetery, a large cemetery in the larger town nearby. Unfortunately, her grave was defaced and destroyed by the Nazis during the Holocaust and her burial place is currently, sadly, a parking lot. Still, may she rest in peace.
