The funeral of Lee Joy of Avonlea who passed away on Monday last in his 62nd year was held this afternoon from Zion Methodist Church and the remains were interred in the Moose Jaw Cemetery. The deceased was a well known resident of the Avonlea district also of Moose Jaw, and his death comes in the nature of surprise to many of his intimate friends. He is survived by one son who is a member of the 210th battalion and by a daughter Mrs. Mack of Avonlea. As a mark of respect of his memory and as an honor to his surviving son one full company of the 210th battalion attended the memorial services in the church.

Brainerd Tribune June 30, 1916. Death of Lee Joy. Lee Joy, who was a resident of Crow Wing County for a number of years, and lived in the Brainerd area two years, died June 13, 1916 at Moose jaw, Canada, in his 63rd year. He leaves four children, two sons and two daughters. One son, William M. Joy, is in the Army in Canada, and will soon leave for England. The other son James, is in the U.S. Navy in Virginia. One daughter Myrtle, is in Minneapolis and the other daughter Mabel Gertrude Mack, who is in Avonlea, Saskatchewan. Mr. Joy was operated on for gallstones June 9.

Lee Monroe Joy was born 31 October 1853 to Stephen Decatur and Malvina Bryson Joy. He was a father of 5 children: Myrtle M born March 1888 William Monroe born 28 July 1890 James Lee Joy born 1 Sept 1892 Mabel Gertrude born 19 Aug 1895 Sherman born 1897
