Leona Weszner

Leona Weszner, 89, of Ashley died December 20, 2015 at Ashley Medical Center. Burial in Zion II Lutheran Cemetery.

Leona Reuther, daughter of Jacob and Emma (Bendewald) Reuther was born June 16, 1926 on the family homestead east of Ashley. She attended country school and worked on the family farm. Her father died at a very young age. Leona was 20 years old at the time. She and her siblings kept the farm going.

Leona was united in marriage to J.F. “Freddie” Weszner on November 25, 1951. They continued farming raising small grains and livestock. Freddie and Leona retired in 1989 and moved into Ashley. Freddie died November 22, 2005.

Leona was a very talented seamstress, quilter and embroidered many dish towels that have been sent all over the United States. She was a wonderful homemaker and had several enjoyments in life, some of those were cooking, baking and canning and getting outside to do yardwork and gardening. She even made homemade wine and gin.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Church Quilters, Ashley Senior Center and many years on the Ashley Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary.

Grateful for having shared Leona’s life are her son, Terry (Jodi) Weszner of Bismarck; two grandchildren, Nathan (Ariel Pledger) Weszner of Bismarck and Kaitlyn (Skyler Helfenstein) Weszner of Ashley; great-grandson, Drake Weszner; sister, Phyllis (Clarence) Pleines of Pettibone, ND; brother-in-law, Marvin Hoffman of Ashley; two sister-in-law’s, Shirley (LeRoy) Fleming and Wilma Reuther, both of Ashley; four nieces and two nephews.

Preceding Leona in death were her parents, husband, Freddie, three grandchildren, two brothers, Clifford and Clarence, brother-in-law, Kenneth Weszner and sister-in-law, Frances Hoffman.
