LEONARD ABRAM GOLD, 85, passed away quietly in his sleep March 6, 2006. Born April 16, 1920, to Pincus and Lena Gold of Jefferson City, MO. Leonard is survived by his wife, Selma, of 63 years of marriage, sons Bary Alan Gold, Mark Stephen Gold and Philip Wright Gold, daughters-in-law, Marcia Rae Gold and Josepha Gold, grandchildren, Ira, Isaac, Tova, David and Aaron Gold, sister-in-law Margaret Gold of Lake Oak, MO, brother-in-law Leonard Sova of St. Louis, MO and many cousins. Preceding him in death are his sisters, Edith Aftergut of Atlanta, GA, Dora Slater, Hilda Wagner and brother Marvin Gold of St. Louis, MO. Leonard was the first person who enlisted in the military in Jefferson City, MO after Pearl Harbor, joining the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in China with Sacco Division as an accountant for the Navy using an abacus. Leonard attended Jr. College in Jefferson City, MO and received his B.A. from Washington University. He worked for the Dept. of Defense in Hope, AR and Margo Antiques of St. Louis, MO. Leonard and Selma moved to Houston in 1948, starting work with Price Anderson but was fired after they found out he was Jewish. He then worked for Pete, Marvick, Mitchell; Temple Beth Israel as Executive Secretary for 26 years and Gold Violin Shop, Inc., for 25 years. Leonard was a very fine quick sketch artist, self-taught and has two of his drawings of violinist Henryk Szeryng in the Library of Congress. Donations may be made to Temple Beth Israel or to a charity of your choosing. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2006, at the Proler Family Chapel at Beth Israel Memorial Garden on Antoine with Rabbi David Lyon officiating.
