From http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tnsmith/ccarticles/oct29-ABCD-195...
In March of 1941, a Mrs. George C. Lewis, (Marcia Moss Lewis), of 8 Summit Grove Avenue, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, also a Ballou researcher, sent me data on early Ballous in Virginia. She found, that the first Ballou come to Virginia, was “Lt. Col. William Ballou, who came to Virginia with the Kings Troops to protect the Colonists from the Indians, and remained. He married Dorothy Clarke, daughter of John Clarke. His will is on record in Henrico County, Virginia, Will Book II, p. 32 for April 5, 1678; sons mentioned, Leonard, William and Thomas.”
comment: therefore Leonard b 1679 is of the generation after the William d 1678 ....

What caught me in this family of Gov. Richard BENNETT was the name of one of this Richard's children, Ann BENNETT (1641-1687) who married John GOODE (1632-1709) of Henrico County, VA. They had a daughter, Elizabeth GOODE (1669-1736) married William BLACKMAN of Chowan County, NC.
However, John and Ann had another daughter, Susanna GOODE b: ABT 1687 in Whitby, Henrico County, VA who married a Leonard BALLOU b: ABT 1665 in Henrico, VA Married: ABT 1712.
