Private life

Leopold Koppel was married and had several sons and daughters. His wife Helene Halberstam was buried in the early 1920s in the Jewish Cemetery Weissensee. His son Albert Leopold Koppel ( * 1889) became a partner in his father's bank. In his villa in the smoke Straße 22 in the Tiergarten district (purchase 1893) there was a collection of paintings by Baroque painters such as Rembrandt, Peter Paul Rubens and van Dyck. This collection was compiled on the advice of Bode.

Nazi era and death

Leopold Koppel came already at the very beginning of the Nazi regime under strong pressure. So he had to retire from the Senate of the German Banking Act in May 1933.
