About Leopold Levy
Leopold (Leo) Levy was born in Oberbieber on October 29, 1882, the son of Tobias Levy and his wife Clara, née Seligmann. He lived in Neuwied-Oberbieber and Wiesbaden. He had another brother, Jakob , born on September 8, 1873, also in Oberbieber. The father was a cattle dealer. The brother Jakob was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp from January to September 1938 and murdered in the Buchenwald concentration camp on December 5, 1938.
Leopold Levy married Charlotte Baer from Wiesbaden in 1921. In September 1922 the only son, Theodor, was born. Leopold was co-owner of the linen and linen equipment company Beckhardt, Kaufmann & Co in Wiesbaden. In March 1937, the Levys' marriage ended in divorce. In 1936 Leopold Levy had already sold his shop, the house at Mozartstrasse 6 and the entire facility. In the same year he was sentenced as a homosexual for "assault" to a fine of 300 RM. This was followed by further convictions by the Frankfurt lay judge's court to five months and the Koblenz jury to three months in prison. Although he had served all sentences in 1938, he was placed in "protective custody" by order of the Gestapo Koblenz, initially in Dachau (January 22 - September 16, 1938) and from September 16, 1938 to September 11, 1938. March 1942 in Buchenwald. On April 3, 1942, according to the Wiesbaden Museum, he was murdered in the T4 facility in Bernburg / Saale. The Berlin Memorial Book states that he was deported from Buchenwald to Bernburg on March 11, 1942 and murdered on the same date.
