Leroy Vorce

Leroy Vorce was the son of John Baker Vorce I and wife Phebe Boyce, one of nine children. He married Caroline Nutting on November 26, 1849 in Henderson, New York. They had two sons, John Baker II and Stephen Harrison. The family moved from New York to Concord, Wisconsin in 1854. In August 1855 wife Caroline separated from her husband. She took her sons and moved back to Henderson, New York. Leroy filed for divorce in Jefferson County, Wisconsin on September 27, 1858. The divorce was granted and he was given custody of the children. He didn't take the children though for reasons unknown and they continued to live with their mother in New York until adulthood. Caroline married Albert Buck, presumably the man she had fallen in love with while married to Leroy, which was her reason for leaving Leroy and returning to New York.

Leroy married Sarah Fuller on October 21, 1859 in Wisconsin. They had three children: Phebe; Albert; Willis. Sometime between 1866 to 1870 the family moved from Jefferson County, Wisconsin to Van Buren County, Michigan.

Leroy died from heart disease.

Hartford Day Spring February 8, 1905

LeRoy Vorce died at his home in the "Pinery" on Monday of organic heart disease, aged 77 years. Mr. Vorce has been a resident of Hartford for a number of years and was well known throughout the community. He leaves a widow and three children. The funeral was held at the house this forenoon, and burial was made at the old cemetery.
